St Vallier U13 (4) v Fry Club Colts U13 (3)

October 30, 2005

Fry’s were missing some of their key defensive players for this match and went 1 nil down after only 2 minutes when Vallier’s striker caught the defence off guard and stormed through to calmly slot the ball into the net.

Tom Rose in the Fry’s goal was called on in the 10th minute when he had to dive to his right to direct a low shot wide of the post.

Fry’s started to turn on the style with Harry Pople making some good piercing runs and link play with Ryan Ellett and Dan Buley up front.

The score was brought back onto level terms in the 23rd minute when Justin Skinners well taken corner was cleared back out to him, and his resulting cross was headed in at the far post by the inform Ryan Davis.

St Vallier kept the pressure on and it paid off when they had a replay of their first goal and cut through the Fry’s defence to make it 2 – 1 after 30 minutes.

Just before half time, some great play from midfield (Evan Thomas) and out on the right (Harry Pople) fed the ball into the box and Dan Buley fired a shot into the far top corner of the net.

The Fry’s boys were told at half time that more communication was needed between them, and they needed to close the gaps that were appearing. The game was there for them to win.

With renewed enthusiasm they started the second half with a goal straight from the whistle with the ball being scrambled over the line by Ryan Davis for his second of the day.

Not long after making it 3 – 2, Fry’s nearly got a fourth when Justin Skinner saw a shot go just over the bar and Dan Buley had a well headed goal disallowed for off side. The ref initially gave it but a very dubious decision by the linesman ruled it off.

Straight away from the free kick, Vallier stormed up the other end and their striker sealed his hattrick with an amazingly struck shot.

The game was held up for quite some time with injuries to players on both sides. Play was going from end to end and it looked like it would end in a draw until Vallier scored the winner with their striker netting his fourth.

The final whistle went dead on 70 minutes with no added on time being played to compensate for the injury stoppages so Fry’s unfortunately saw their 7 match winning streak come to an end. Boys, take this as a hiccup to the season and get back to winning ways next week.
